Carving Up Cookeville

Registratoin Open

Carving Up Cookeville, a new pumpkin carving contest presented by Cookeville Leisure Services, is open for registration.

Carving Up Cookeville features three categories: Scariest, Most Creative and Funniest. Age groups are adults (18 and up) and children (17 and under).

Registration is open through National Pumpkin Day, Oct. 26; the entry fee is $5 per pumpkin. Entries can be dropped off Oct. 26-28 at 4 p.m. at Cane Creek Recreation Center, 180 C C Camp Road. Then the judging will begin.

First place winners will receive fall-themed prize baskets.

Afterward, photos of all entries will be posted on the Cookeville Leisure Services Department Facebook page for a virtual contest starting Oct. 29. The pumpkin with the most likes by Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. will receive the People’s Choice award.

Parent Child Halloween Cookie Decorating Class

Cookeville, Tennessee

Thursday, October 8th – 4 – 6PM
Learn basic cookie techniques for Halloween
cookies. Even though this looks like an advanced class-it is good for all levels. Becca will walk you thru the processes of baking, making the icing and actually decorating step by step. Recipes included.
Reserve your spot today. Tickets are $50.00 per adult and $25.00 for kids under 16.

Oktoberfest 2020

Mark your calendars for the 4th Annual Oktoberfest celebration at Jig Head Brewing Company. Music, food, fun, games, and of course our famous Golden Oktoberfest beer, Hafenmeister. Admission is free. The Smoky Nights will play from 3 to 6! Do not miss this concert! By the way, a whole hog roast is on the menu. Estimated dinner time is around 6 PM.

Folklore History Hike

‘Boogers, Haunts and Haints’
It’s our final History Hike of 2020! Remember those spooky stories told around a campfire to make you scared of the dark? What produced that light or sound? Was it the wind… or something else? Discover some unnerving tales from all over Tennessee in the self-guided Boogers, Haunts and Haints Folklore History Hike on Oct. 10 between the Cookeville History Museum (40 E. Broad St.) and Cookeville Depot (116 W. Broad St.). Pick up an entry form at either museum between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Complete this free activity to be entered in a prize drawing sponsored by Friends of the Cookeville History Museum. Haunted Hayride

Short Mountain Distillery – Woodbury, Tennessee

Friday, October 16th 7PM – Midnight
Take a one-mile ride around the farm learning about the legends, myths and current hauntings that make this farm the most haunted location in Middle Tennessee. Every scheduled loop is hosted by a top notch guides narrating the horrors that have scared off the faint of heart for a hundred years.
Bigfoot, Charles Manson, and cackling witches are but a few of the creatures you will see with your own eyes. This is more than a jump scare haunted house. This trip is a history lesson with the gory scenes recreated with live actors. Keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times… or they could be something’s supper.
There will be a music and bonfires nightly.

The Red Shed concession stand will be open nightly while supplies last.
Seated dining in the Restaurant is by reservation only.
This is a fundraiser event for Short Mountain Volunteer Fire Department and the Cannon County Rescue Squad.
